When the legendary Dark Sonic lost his beloved wife, Siren, he refused to accept her death as final. Obsessing, he put his formidable research skills to work, looking for a way to bring her back. What he found was a portal to an alternate dimension. This was a portal of the mind which led to a place half-way between life and death. However, what Dark Sonic did not know was that he had an alternate self in this realm. This alternate self was a demon known as N'ez Re'ath. At the moment he entered the portal, Dark Sonic merged with his alternate self, who at the time was battling his arch nemesis, the wizard known as Red Thunder. Seeing the portal and taking advantage of the surprise, Red Thunder was able to cast N'ez Re'ath into our dimension, trapping Dark Sonic in the alternate. Back here on Earth, N'ez Re'ath now inhabits Sonic's body while he seaches for a way to get back home, and he's rockin' out while he does it!
