Cyrus is a former death row inmate who was wrongfully accused of murder in his early adulthood. After his sentencing, he became a test subject for a secret government project known as the G3 Project in exchange for the possibility of parole. After the agreement, the government mutated his DNA and attempted to create a super-human soldier! However, they apparently failed to succeed as Cyrus' system began to reject most of the drugs and physical tests. After returning to his cell in New York and being labeled as a 'failed subject', the courthouse refused to live up to their end of the deal. What the geneticists didn't realize was that G3 was a success! While working out in the yard one day, Cyrus began to realize that he could move the shade with a mere thought. Knowing that he would be there for life, Cyrus then discovered his true potential by escaping his imprisonment with the use of his new-found powers. With almost no effort at all, he created a dome of darkness around the prison and escaped using a predetermined route through the yard. After wandering the country in search of those who framed him, he finally found them at a cemetery in Michigan where they were laid to rest after being killed in gang warfare. Since his search was finally over, he decided to find peace by joining the fight for justice in Millennium City! Even as a fugitive, he has vowed to help those in need and clean up the streets in hopes of one day clearing his name and truly becoming free again!

This deeply affected his social skills, though he received great education on the part of his mother, who left her career as a college professor to help him in his studies while growing up. Caine struggled with his disease through his teen years, and this led to his unfortunate fate. One night, Caine's alternate personality emerged during a bank robbery and this drove him to use his abilities for the first time in a very bad way. Not only did he use his abilities to stop the thieves, but he then killed them and the innocent bystanders as well. Before he knew it, law enforcement had arrived to stop the massacre and destruction. Not long after his life sentencing into a maximum security prison, he began to construct an escape plan. After 7 long years, he chose to embrace the killer within, fearing he would never see the outside of his cell walls again. While there, he befriended Cyrus, who was wrongly accused of murder and plotting an escape himself. It wasn't long before Caine turned on Cyrus due to gang warfare within the prison and attempted to kill him, only to fail. Once Cyrus was thought to have been killed by the government during the G3 Project, Caine broke out and has since been running a gang of the cellmates and enemies of his former ally. Eventually to his surprise, Caine was stopped by Cyrus during an attempted arson and has since rekindled his determination to kill Cyrus!
